UFO test flight

So this is just a test to see what type of silliness I can come up with.
BUT I need your help guys!
I wanted to downlaod a video clip of Godzilla to isolate by using the rotobrush and insert him into my video but my download is not accessible to edit in After Effects.
Maybe I am not downloading it right, maybe it is in the wrong file type I just don't know what I should do! Please help if you can!

  1. Maybe you should see what file type the video is in, and try downloading it in different types. I'm not entirely sure what is messing up for you. But, so far I like what you have going. The only thing I would suggest is making the UFO a little more prominent. It is a little hard to see, especially towards the end, unless you're going for that subtleness then keep it like it is. I'll look more into the importing issue to see how I can help.

  2. Page I know you are going for the whole Cloverfield, Godzilla movements in your film, but I think your video is way to shaky. There is a craft to everything even shaking the camera while filming. I personally feel your film is not looking purposefully done the way Cloverfield does. I don't mean to be hard I just think that since you don't have so much a narrative story that you should try to perfect the method of which you are shooting. try and shoot more steadily if possible and you can always add shakes and tilts in later with after effects. Great job though I cant wait to see your imagination take over the film.

  3. I agree with Jake. The camera shakes just a little too much and I would have the ufo closer in the shot, almost like it is over the building abducting someone then fleeing. Really interested in how you bring Godzilla into this

  4. Nice idea though I'd like to see more of the UFO. Maybe scale it up a little bit or give it some light and color.

  6. I agree with Aaron, also see if there's a way to reduce the camera shake. It's a little jarring and distracting from your animation.

  7. after effects has several tools (warp stabilizer, rolling shutter repair) to address shakiness. If it were me I would set aside an afternoon to experiment with filming smoother footage. As for the UFO, it looks cool as one of those countless ufo sighting videos on youtube but it doesnt seem as imaginative as what youre going for. maybe consider adding more ufos flying in formation, or shooting lasers at campus (or both, or neither, but at least something more exciting).

"youtube downloader" is a free program that will convert any youtube to .mov format, or you could use quicktime's built in screen recorder and just play the youtube in realtime.

  8. Good start but I agree that more interest added to the ufo would help.
